Burke isn't being wasted on the bench at Wigan - the Burke on their bench currently is Luke Burke. Reece is injured and back with us getting treatment.

I said players who are currently called up to play for England.
James Milner retired last year. A top coach would even know that.

Burke is now being wasted on the bench at Wigan. What has he learnt since going up there ? I knew it was the wrong club at the time After such a good season last year he should of stayed and pushed the likes of Ogbonna. Would of helped out at full back too

Yep, sod what the top coaches think, let's ask Joe Hart and James Milner what's best for the next generation.

Re Sven 12:08 His first loan spell at Posh tailed off because they got a halfwit in as managee (Westley). Grant McCann is in charge there now. He'll give Samuelsen a decent run.

I wonder if any of the 20 odd players that currently get called up to play for England think their loans were a complete waste of time, or a key part of their development?

I think the data does back up what the article is saying. Spurs two years ago had 10-13 young players out on loan, this year they have zero. Klopp's quotes are backed up with the club's actions - no u21s are now out on loan, a couple of years ago there were a bunch of them. I think Arsenal's youth loans year on year they are generally reducing.

The Sky story amounts to a load of conjecture based on three players nobody has ever heard of not going out on loan and Arsene Wenger moaning about Chelsea having more players than him.

Broadly yes. I don't think anyone would totally rule out loans as an option in some cases.

So no young players should be out playing and getting experience, they should all be playing in U21 games and just training?

Good piece on the Sky website today. Happy to see that some top coaches are now showing signs of questioning the loan system as I do.

The point I do make on this issue is that loans of young players so often seem to results in a net negative. Now in his third longer loan spell, it's no surprise at all that his development seems to be stalling.

All the talent in the world and a great attitude. If he can learn how to apply his game in the world of competitive football he will be a great little player.

To be fair Alex V would also allow a couple of world class 25 year olds bought for £3.50 and a couple of bags of lentils.

Re: Martin Samuelsen

His first loan there tailed off but obviously they rate him enough to bring him back. At 19 he just needs to be playing regularly For those getting too impatient at that age Harry Kane was on loan at Millwall looking like an enormous mongy DONKEY
